Flexible and economical operation of chlor‐alkali process with subsequent polyvinyl chloride production

Demand response (DR) can compensate for imbalances in variable renewable energy supplies. This possibility is particularly interesting electrochemical processes, due to their high intensity. To determine the technical feasibility and economic viability of DR, we chose chlor-alkali process with subsequent polyvinyl chloride production, including intermediate storage ethylene dichloride. We estimate maximum possible cost savings implementing load flexibility measures. A model set up system characteristic. Subsequent optimizations result facility's best dispatch depending on additional minimum power load, volume, a change. Real plant data are used specify parameters validate characteristic dispatch. An evaluation reveals advantages efficiency flexibility. The approach be analyze DR potential other chlorine value chains or facilities electricity demand general.
